Projection Glossary
Ambient Light

All light in a viewing room produced by sources other than the screen.

Aspect Ratio.
The numeric relationship between a screen's height and width. This ratio is often defined by the selected projection medium. Hence, NTSC Video (U.S. television) has an aspect ratio of 3:4.

Bend Angle
The angle through which a projected light ray must be diverted from its original path to reach a viewer's eyes.

Borders
The black portion surrounding the viewing area of a screen.

Brightness
A viewer's subjective response to luminance.

Contrast Ratio
The numeric relationship between the brightest and the darkest portions of a display expressed in foot-lamberts as a ratio of Max:Min.

CRT
Cathode Ray Tube. Same technology used in TV and computer monitors.

DLP
This technology is based on the Digital Micromirror Device™ (DMD™) which uses over 500,000 microscopic mirrors on the SVGA chip to reflect images on screen.

Drop
The area between the top of the viewing area and the bottom of the screen housing.

Foot-Candle
The fundamental unit of illumination representing the light intensity over a 1 square foot surface which is 1 foot away from a standard candle.

Foot-Lambert
A unit of luminance equivalent to 1 lumen per square foot.

Gain
A measurement usually made perpendicular to screen center of the luminance transmitted by the screen, divided by the luminance radiating from the projector.

HDTV
Acronym for High Definition Television

Keystone
The distortion of the projected image when the screen is not perpendicular with the center line of the projected image.

LCD
Liquid Crystal Display. Commonly used in digitized projection.

Lenticular
Screen surface comprised of a geometric embossing pattern. The shape of the pattern affects view\angle performance and reflection of ambient light.

Luminance
The measured brightness of a screen, expressed in foot-lamberts.

Projection Axis
The direction of an imaginary line extending from the center of the projection lens through the screen's center.

SVGA
Super Video Graphic Array. Common computer screen resolution. (800 x 600)

Throw Distance
The length of the projection beam necessary for a particular projector to produce an image of a specified size.

VGA
Video Graphic Array. Common computer screen resolution. (640 x 480)

Viewing Angle
The angle from a specified viewing position to the center of the screen. It is usually measured on the horizontal or on the vertical axis. Specified in this guide as optimum screen brightness from screen center to either side.

Classification of Screen
Projection Screen can be classified into two kinds: reflecting type and transmitting type. Reflecting is used in front Projecting, otherwise, transmitting is used in rear projecting. Front projection screen can also classify into plane screen and arc screen. Plane screen has small gain and large visual angle characters, inquiring surrounding light weak. Arc screen has big gain and small visual angle features, surrounding light can brighten, the reflected light is not same on every direction. It can classify into glass beaded screen, matte white screen and metallic screen according to materials. Basis on using way, it can sorted into manual, tripod, electric, desk, portable floor, shelf screen etc.

When selecting a front projection surface, consider several key factors:
The quality of image which the human eye perceives is primarily a function of gain, contrast, uniformity and resolution.
Gain: a relative measure of a screen's reflectivity.
Contrast: the ability to accurately reproduce and differentiate light and dark characters and backgrounds, or light and dark areas of an image. Ambient light rejection properties: the ability to perform well under normal to adverse lighting conditions in the audience area.
Resolution: the clarity of the projected image.
Uniformity: the screen's performance when viewed from various points off the projection axis (both horizontally and vertically), and when the brightness of the center of the image is compared to the corners.
Projection Format: the height and width of the projected image determines the screen's size and shape (AV, NTSC, HDTV, WideScreen, CinemaScope, overhead, slide or motion pictures).

Textile Backed Screen Surfaces
In this group, the reflective surface is laminated to a woven textile base. The screen surface hangs suitably flat because of the stability of the material and the weight of the bottom dowel. Good for all types of projection. Commonly used for single lens video projection, as well as for CRT video and data-graphics projection.
Matte White:
The standard to which all other screen surfaces are compared. Matt white vinyl reflective surface laminated to tear-resistant woven fiberglass. A matt white surface diffuses projected light in all directions, so the image can be seen from any angle. Provides accurate color rendition as well as superior clarity. Recommended for use with all high light output projection devices. Requires control of ambient light in the audience area. Washable, flame and mildew resistant. Now available seamless in all standard sizes through 8' high.
Care and Maintenance: Clean surface with a solution of mild dishwashing liquid diluted with warm water. Sponge the surface, rinse with clear water and blot dry. Do not use cleaning solvents or abrasives.

Seamless Matt White:
Seamless matt white material for large roller operated screens through 16' wide. Panamax has excellent dimensional stability. Washable.
Care and Maintenance:
Clean surface with a solution of mild dishwashing liquid diluted with warm water. Sponge the surface, rinse with clear water and blot dry. Do not use cleaning solvents or abrasives.

Glass Beaded:
Brighter on-axis viewing than matt white surfaces within a narrower viewing cone. Some loss of clarity. Not for use with ceiling or floor mounted projectors. Flame and mildew resistant, but cannot be cleaned. Now available seamless in all standard sizes through 10' high.
Care and Maintenance: Clean surface with a very soft brush or cloth and carefully dust the surface. Do not use soap, water, solvents or abrasives.

High Contrast Grey:
Grey textile backed surface offers excellent resolution while enhancing the blacks of LCD and DLP projected images, even as whites and lighter colors are maintained. Performs well in ambient light condition. High Contrast Grey's lower gain of 0.8 allows use with even the brightest projectors; viewing cone of 180 degrees. Seamless in sizes through 8' in height.
Care and Maintenance: Clean surface with a solution of mild dishwashing liquid diluted with warm water. Sponge the surface, rinse with clear water and blot dry. Do not use cleaning solvents or abrasives.

Vinyl Video Fabric
These screen surfaces are tensioned vinyl with no backing. We offers motorized, crank-operated and permanently tensioned screens with built-in tensioning systems. The surface is stretched perfectly flat, resulting in better picture quality. Flatness is always desirable, particularly for video or data-graphics projection. We provide white and grey video fabric at present.

HiDef Grey:
A grey front projection surface that provides greater contrast and black reproduction than standard surfaces, with a lower gain to handle today's super-bright projectors. The grey color enhances color contrast and black levels in the projected image and also allows for more ambient light in the audience area than traditional surfaces. Available on all tab-tensioned and permanently tensioned screens.
Care and Maintenance: Clean surface with a solution of mild dishwashing liquid diluted with warm water. Remove stubborn stains with a solution of rubbing alcohol and water. Do not allow any cleaners to be absorbed by the fabric. Do not use cleaners which contain abrasives or wax.

How does Infrared Interactive Whiteboard work?
Infrared Interactive Whiteboard utilizes the infrared matrix which densely covered on the directions of X and Y to detect and position the user’s touch. It is able to work well under severe environment against any interference. Infrared technology will be in a trend of ultimate development on electronic interactive whiteboard as well as touch screen products.

What’s advantage of Infrared technology compare with other technologies?
In the field of interactive whiteboard, people adopted technologies of ultrasound, electromagnetism and baroceptor, but due to their original nature, those technologies always arose some inherent problems, such as poor positioning accuracy, board scratch problem, electromagnetic pollution and unlimited consumables, etc. However, for infrared technology, all the problems do not exist any more. Infrared Interactive Whiteboard has realized high stable performance and low failure rate, and it must be the main trend for whiteboard and touch screen to replace all the other technologies.

How does the curved screen work?
The curved screen visualization system consists of a cylindrical or spherical screen, image generators and edge blending technologies are used to create a seamless image. It doesn’t matter which kind of measurements you require, our curved screen system can be adjusted according to your needs.
